Test your Spectrum internet speeds with one click.
POWERED BY M-LAB
This test measures the connection to your current device, not the speed delivered directly to your gateway or modem.
This test uses Measurement Lab (M-Lab). M-Lab collects measurement data, including your public IP address, and makes test data publicly available. Read M-Lab’s Privacy Policy before starting.
This is an independent speed test, not an official Spectrum tool. It measures the connection to your current device. Results may change with your device, WiFi signal, network activity, and the time of the test.
How to compare your result with your Spectrum plan
Check the download speed listed in your Spectrum account, then compare it with your test result. If your plan says 500 Mbps, for example, that figure is your plan’s download speed; it does not mean every device will show 500 Mbps over WiFi.
Run the test twice: once where you normally use the device and, if possible, once on a computer connected by Ethernet. Pause downloads and streams on other devices first. A wired test gives you a better starting point for checking whether the slowdown is mainly on your home WiFi.
For a closer look at available tiers, see our Spectrum internet plans guide.
What do download, upload, and ping mean?
- Download speed: How quickly your device receives data for streaming, browsing, and downloads.
- Upload speed: How quickly it sends data during video calls, file uploads, and cloud backups.
- Ping: The delay between your device and the test server, shown in milliseconds. Lower ping generally means a more responsive connection.
Compare upload results with the upload speed available on your specific plan. Do not compare them with your plan’s advertised download number.
What if your Spectrum speed test is slow?
If the wired result is much better than WiFi, try testing closer to the router and in another room. Our guide to fixing slow home WiFi covers the common causes.
If both wired and WiFi results stay slow across several tests, check for an outage or equipment issue through Spectrum support. You can also compare the result with Spectrum’s official speed test.
One test is only a snapshot. For more context on how connection type and other factors affect performance, read our Spectrum home internet speed analysis.
Spectrum speed test FAQs
Can I run this test if I do not use Spectrum?
Yes. The tool tests the internet connection on your current device. The guidance on this page is written for Spectrum customers.
Does this test measure the speed reaching my modem?
No. It measures the connection to your device through your browser. Your WiFi, router, and device can all affect the result.
Why are my WiFi and Ethernet results different?
WiFi performance can change with distance, walls, interference, and your device’s capabilities. Compare both connections before deciding whether your Spectrum service itself is slow.
